While this isn’t exactly news pertaining to a cheater, it is interesting to see different shenanigans going on in the world of Xbox Live. Reader “u know me” sent in this tip about a person posing as some kind of Xbox Live “Moderator.” Here’s what “u know me” says about him:

the guys tag is XBL MOD USA he claims its his work tag and his bio says hes a mod and MS ambassador for europe and the usa and he says on it he is from the usa but if you click on his tag just before his motto appears it clearly says united kingdom allso he says if anyone has a problem with him to call MS support and quote a ten digit code but whenever ive had to use MS support all there codes have been nine digits not ten…and as i said in a previous post he messaged fl trooper be stating hes a mod of this site and told him not to worry as he knew he was no cheat-he probably pretends to be a mod and ambassador for attention so gullable people will kiss his butt..how sad.

Definitely sad, but what might be worse is anyone who might actually fall for it, especially since the guy doesn’t even have a Gold Xbox Live account.

We’ve just been swamped with…well, we’re not going to lie…The Memorial Day weekend (US holiday) was a nice stretch of relaxation, and we’ve been engrossed in Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. It’s the latest MMORPG from Eidos, and it really is a hoot!

We’re behind on the Watch List updates, and we still need to sort through a bunch of tips sent in by all of our great readers. In the meantime, we have been trying to keep up with your comments though!

Sorry about the downtime folks – we swear we’ll get back into the swing of things tomorrow eventually.

We’re huge fans of Gears of War here at Xbox Cheater Watch, and we know many of you are as well. By now, you must have seen the vid of footage from Gears of War 2 the incredible sequel to the blockbuster title. GTA IV – quite possibly the paramount of next-gen gaming. We know 99% of Xbox gamers are playing through this beast of a game, and we want to share with you a few quick and easy Achievements everyone can earn without cheating.

No, this isn’t a picture of a new peripheral for your 360.  With Xbox Live (and Xbox.com) going through maintenance, we can’t track cheaters.  Just wanted to let you all know.  During the downtime, why not play some games, or read some of our older posts?  Of course, we might have another interesting story or two up later to pass the time.

Xbox Live has a feature that, when enabled, hides a ton of information that is normally available to view to the public. Information such as the latest games the person has played, to the current Xbox Live status of the person are available to check out without the privacy settings enabled.

But along with the other info that gets hidden are the particular Achievements the person has unlocked. That goes for the times and dates of the unlocking as well. Of interest to us is why people enable the privacy settings on their Xbox Live accounts. We’ve heard a few reasons, ranging from wanting to avoid being seen on Xbox Live to prevent harassment from certain people, to simply wanting to remain private about their gaming history.

There is one big reason why some people hide that info – and despite it’s obvious nature, given a person’s Gamerscore, no one has ever admitted to it. We’re talking about hiding like rats, lest the light show how filthy and rotten they really are. Yes, some seem to want to the Achievement history that details their proclivity to cheat. Every single illegitimate unlocked Achievement, hidden from public perusement. It seems to just scream “cheater.”

Of course, since the privacy settings do not protect them from Microsoft’s scrutiny, why hide the fact that they cheat? Could they possibly be ashamed of their actions? Are they afraid of being scrutinized by the Community? Or perhaps we’re just jumping to conclusions? Are we completely mistaken about the people that hide their Achievements, and these people really aren’t trying to hide the truth about their cheating?

Excuses, excuses, excuses. It never ceases to amuse us when cheaters try to excuse their unethical behavior. We’ve heard a litany of cop outs and excuses to why they cheat. Here are some of the more common ones:

• “It’s a waste of time to play ‘bad’ games.” Sure, there are such things as “bad” games, but why in the world would they to get the Achievements offered by those games?
• “Some Achievements are just too difficult to earn.” By cheating to obtain these Achievements, cheaters take way from those who earned these challenging Achievements. What sense of pride do cheaters have in these Achievements when they know they didn’t earn them?
• “Cheating doesn’t hurt anyone.” Fact is, cheating harms the integrity of the Gamerscore system, which in turns, affects all of us who earn our Achievements without cheating. Of course, this excuse is often accompanied with the claim that “Gamerscores don’t really matter anyway” – which puzzles us because cheaters are often so obsessed with increasing their Gamerscore.
• “Everybody else is doing it!” Thankfully, the VAST majority of gamers earn their Achievements without cheating.
• “I can do anything I want with my Gamerscore.” Absolutely false. Everyone agrees to abide by the Xbox Live Terms of Use when they sign up for an Xbox Live account. When you purchase a ticket to attend a ball game, you don’t have the right to throw rubbish on the field, harass people, or manipulate the scoring system.
